5 Frequently Asked Marketing Questions

In our conversations with clients, we often hear the same questions come up over and over. With this insight, we put together some information to address five frequently asked marketing questions.

Question #1: How can I get more leads from my website?

A business website is the hub of a business. It should answer most of the typical questions a customer might ask. With a couple tips and tricks, you can start to get more leads from your website.

The first tip to help generate more leads from your website is to create a special lead magnet to entice customers. A lead magnet will address a common, specific need and encourage visitors to take some action to get some useful information. In this process, you get the user to raise their hand some way, like filling out a form to provide contact information in return for something of value.

For example, you might offer a free video, class, checklist, coupon, discount code, product demo or free quote for services. To get any of these items of value, you will first collect their name and contact information.

In addition, a business website should be engaging, interactive and encourage users to move toward becoming paying customers. By using pictures, videos, and text it is a great way to share your business’s message. The more a user interacts with a business’s website the more likely they are to become a paying (and repeat) customer. Check out our article with tips to create a strong business website.

Question #2: How do I improve my search engine results?

We all want to be the number one result in a search engine! However, we cannot all be #1. We have a couple of tips that will help improved your search engine results.

The first thing is to understand the landscape of keywords and keyword traffic related to your business. Also, you must understand which keywords your website is already ranking for. Check your competitor’s keywords and see which ones you are missing. Then do some keyword research to see what keywords might be a better fit for your website (or a particular page). From here start mapping keywords to particular pages. We have a great article that outlines what keywords are and why they are important.

Another tip is to regularly add new content to your website or blog. New content is essential to getting higher rankings. The more relevant a website’s content is to what a user is searching for the more likely it is that the website will appear higher in the search rankings. Finally, do not forget about backlinks! Google has confirmed that backlinks are one of the top three factors for deciding how a website ranks in their search engine. If credible websites link to your website, search engines take notice, and this will improve your authority and rankings.

Question #3: How often should we update our website?

When it comes to updating your website there is no specific time frame. A website should be updated based on what works best for your business. If your products and services always stay the same, then potentially you will only have to update your website a couple of times a year. However, most organizations today move at a quicker pace. If that is the case, you will update it more frequently.

For example, if you run promotions or sales, you need to update your website. If you are a service provider, you might post information about the benefits of your services, why people need them, who is using your services, testimonials, and case studies and more.

Question #4: What social media platforms should my business be using?

Just because you have a business does not mean that you necessarily need a business profile for every social media platform. Be strategic about which social media platform you should use based on your target audience. If you want to reach a younger audience, try Instagram and Snapchat. If your customers are typically older, perhaps Facebook and LinkedIn might be better.

This question also depends on your message. Consumer focused products and services may work best on Facebook and Instagram. However, business to business or professional services might be more appropriate on LinkedIn where the content is more business focused.

Question #5: How often should I post content to social media?

Your business has a social media profile, now what? After creating the profile, it is important to post regular content. Just having a profile is not enough. Each social media platform is different and so are their recommended posting schedules.

For example, with Snapchat your content disappears after 24 hours. This suggests you post frequently, even daily. With Instagram since it is photo-based you should post when you have compelling photos. With Twitter your tweets can get buried easily so you might post multiple times a week, sometimes even multiple times a day.

Don’t forget that some of the most valuable time spent on social media is not posting but interacting with other users. Find and follow your customers, share their content, ask questions and answer other people’s questions. This is the social part of social media, and it can be some of the most well-spent and productive time of your day!

Social media may seem overwhelming, but we have another article which might help! “Which Social Media Platform Is Best for My Business?” answers commonly asked questions about each social platform, defines the typical audience, and outlines recommended posting frequency for each platform.
